Information
Sodium hypochlorite is also known as liquid chlorine. In terms of physical properties and appearance, the compound is a yellowish liquid, as it is a salt solution.
This chemical substance is obtained by chlorinating a solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) in water with chlorine (Cl2) or by electrolysis of a solution of table salt (NaCl).
Liquid chlorine has been used for disinfection since its inception, thanks to its ability to kill pathogens.
The price of sodium hypochlorite depends mainly on the percentage of active chlorine contained in the solution. The price may also be affected by currency fluctuations, raw material prices and logistics services.
That is why the first place where it is used is in the treatment of tap water, before it is discharged. This reagent prevents the growth of algae and microorganisms, and also removes limescale and sediment.
Sodium hypochlorite is used in swimming pools to disinfect and maintain the pH of the water (7.0-7.4). This substance is used to clean fishing ponds and their structures (dams, sluices, drains).
